That’s where every Geo Designs project begins. I take time to get a genuine feel for the space and its surroundings – what landscape designers call the genius loci, or spirit of the place. The way the light moves across the garden. How the site sits within the wider landscape. What the surrounding buildings and terrain are telling you. Only once I understand all of that does the design begin to take shape.
The Highlands gives us something remarkable to work with – and something demanding too. We have one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world on our doorstep, but you can’t compete with it. You can only borrow from it, blend with it, and design something that feels as though it genuinely belongs here.
My guiding principle is simplicity. Less is almost always more. A garden that’s calm, considered and well planted will outlast and outperform one that’s busy and overcomplicated every time. I carry that discipline through every element – colour, texture, materials, features and plants – ensuring everything works in harmony with your home and its environment.
